Toyota to Adopt North American Charging Standard, Expanding Charging Options for Customers

Toyota Motor North America, Inc. (TMNA) has announced a significant step forward in its vehicle electrification strategy by adopting the North American Charging Standard (NACS) for its battery electric vehicles (BEVs) starting in 2025. This move will notably expand charging options for Toyota customers, providing access to over 12,000 Tesla Superchargers across North America.

Starting in 2025, select Toyota BEVs, including an all-new, three-row, battery-electric SUV to be assembled at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky (TMMK), will feature NACS ports. This integration marks a major enhancement in the charging infrastructure for Toyota owners, facilitating a more convenient and accessible charging experience.

Furthermore, customers who own or lease Toyota vehicles equipped with the Combined Charging System (CCS) will also benefit from this transition. Starting in 2025, they will be offered an adapter that enables NACS charging, significantly increasing their accessibility to various charging networks.

Benefits of Adopting NACS:

The adoption of NACS by Toyota BEVs brings several key benefits to customers:

1. Expanded Access to Charging Networks: The transition to NACS will allow Toyota BEV owners to access Tesla's extensive network of Superchargers, significantly expanding the available charging infrastructure.

2. Enhanced Convenience: With NACS, Toyota customers can enjoy greater convenience, particularly when it comes to accessing DC fast chargers. This is crucial for long-distance travel and busy urban environments where charging time is a key factor.

3. Increased Compatibility: Offering an adapter for vehicles equipped with CCS enhances compatibility with various charging networks, ensuring that drivers are not limited by the type of charging port their vehicle has.

4. Confidence in Travel: The expanded charging options through NACS will provide customers with greater confidence to travel longer distances, knowing that charging options are more readily available.

5. Future-Proofing: As the electric vehicle market evolves, adopting a standardized charging system like NACS positions Toyota to seamlessly integrate with future advancements in charging technology and infrastructure.

Toyota is committed to delivering a seamless charging experience for its customers, whether at home or on the go. Through the Toyota app, customers already have access to an extensive charging network of over 84,000 charging ports in North America. The integration of NACS is a testament to Toyota's dedication to enhancing the convenience and accessibility of electric vehicle charging, aligning with the company's broader goal of promoting sustainable mobility.
