The 2026 Toyota Camry Hybrid AWD is a sedan that covers a lot of ground, and not just literally....
Not every all-electric vehicle is built for rough roads. Most are designed for city commutes and highway driving, and they perform well in those environments. The 2026 Toyota bZ Woodland is a different kind of BEV. It was built from the ground up to handle terrain that would challenge most family SUVs, and it does it without a drop of fuel.
For Ontario drivers who spend time on gravel roads, forest trails, or unpaved cottage routes, the bZ Woodland brings a set of off-road hardware that goes well beyond standard EV capability. Here’s how it handles the conditions that put vehicles to the test.
Standard AWD with X-MODE: The Foundation
Every bZ Woodland comes with standard dual-motor all-wheel drive. There is no FWD option. Power flows to both front and rear eAxles, giving the system the torque split and traction it needs to manage loose, slippery, or uneven surfaces.
On top of that, all models come equipped with X-MODE, a driver-selectable system that automatically adjusts brake control and power delivery at each wheel based on the road surface. X-MODE is designed to maximize traction when conditions get difficult, whether that means a muddy field access road, a wet rocky trail, or an icy forest road.
- Dual-motor AWD standard on all grades
- X-MODE with Grip-Control standard
- 215 mm of ground clearance
- 3,500 lbs (1,588 kg) towing capacity
Grip-Control: Built for Low-Speed Off-Road Situations
X-MODE includes a function called Grip-Control that kicks in at low speeds on difficult surfaces. When activated, the system modulates motor power delivery to each wheel to help maintain a controlled, steady pace over rough terrain. The goal is to reduce wheel spin and keep the vehicle moving without requiring constant driver input.
This is particularly useful on loose gravel, roots, or uneven ground where maintaining a slow, deliberate speed is more effective than applying more throttle. The driver can focus on steering and line selection while Grip-Control manages the power delivery.
215 mm of Ground Clearance
Ground clearance matters on off-road terrain. Rock steps, ruts, and trail debris all become obstacles when a vehicle sits too low. The bZ Woodland sits at 215 mm of ground clearance, which provides meaningful separation between the undercarriage and typical trail hazards.
The vehicle also has a longer wheelbase than the standard bZ, and its unique body includes wide black overfenders that widen the stance and add some protection to the body sides. The rear is also 140 mm longer and 20 mm taller than the standard bZ, which contributes to cargo volume and rear approach geometry.
Available All-Terrain Tires on the Premium Grade
The bZ Woodland Premium grade offers an optional All-Terrain tire package. These tires are designed for mixed-surface use and provide better grip on loose, unpaved terrain than standard all-season tires. When equipped with All-Terrain tires, the manufacturer-estimated driving range adjusts to 418 km. Without All-Terrain tires, the standard bZ Woodland has a manufacturer-estimated driving range of up to 452 km.
For Ontario drivers who primarily use trails and secondary roads, the All-Terrain tire option is a practical upgrade.
Panoramic View Monitor with Multi-Terrain Monitor
Navigating tight trails or rocky approaches is easier with a clear picture of what’s around the vehicle. The bZ Woodland comes standard with a Panoramic View Monitor that includes Multi-Terrain Monitor functionality. Multiple camera angles can be displayed on the 14-inch touchscreen, giving the driver a view of the terrain immediately around the vehicle, including the area directly in front of and under the nose.
This is the kind of feature that makes low-speed technical driving considerably less stressful, particularly when approaching obstacles that aren’t visible from the driver’s seat.
375 hp and 0-100 km/h in 4.4 Seconds
Off-road capability does not mean slow. The bZ Woodland’s dual-motor AWD system produces 375 combined system net horsepower, and Toyota estimates a 0-100 km/h time of 4.4 seconds. That performance is available instantly, which is one of the real advantages of an all-electric drivetrain on varied terrain. There’s no lag waiting for combustion to build up. Power delivery is immediate and precise.
For trail driving, that instant torque response is useful when climbing grades or pulling out of soft ground.
3,500 lbs of Towing Capacity
Towing and off-road capability often go together. Trailers, boats, ATVs, and camping gear are common payloads for off-road-capable vehicles. The bZ Woodland is rated to tow up to 3,500 lbs (1,588 kg), which covers most utility trailers and smaller boat trailers.
That towing rating is standard across both grades, not limited to a special tow package.
Charging in the Field
Remote destinations raise a natural question about range. The bZ Woodland is equipped with a 74.7 kWh lithium-ion battery and a North American Charging System (NACS) port compatible with Level 3 DC fast charging. Under ideal conditions, the system can charge from 10% to 80% in around 30 minutes using DC fast charging.
The vehicle also comes standard with a dual-voltage 120V/240V home charging cable, so charging from a standard 240V outlet at a cottage or cabin is possible without additional equipment. An 11-kW on-board AC charger handles Level 1 and Level 2 AC charging for everyday use.
