Road Trip Survival Tips

Now that summer has arrived it’s time for the annual family road trip! Time to break out the travel snacks, fun activities, and gadgets to keep everyone entertained. And don’t forget a map so that you know where you are going! If you are looking to get to your destination with as little fuss as possible, here are some tips.

Fill a Backpack

Packing a small backpack for each child goes a long way towards keeping a peaceful vehicle. Work to fill each backpack with travel games, colouring books, crayons, and other travel essentials. Also include a small pillow or blanket for if they decide to take a nap on the drive.

Bring Lots of Snacks

The best way to keep your family happy on a trip is to keep their bellies full! Pack a cooler full of goodies, and include a mix of healthy choices such as fruits and veggies, as well as treats like cookies and granola bars. Don’t forget water bottles and juice boxes. Keep the food bag easily accessible so that everyone can get food when they need it.

Prepare the Gadgets

Before you back out of the driveway, make sure you have all the gadgets you need and that they are powered up. Bring along portable chargers for the car, and make sure they work with your devices. Renting DVDs at the library and watching them on portable DVD players will keep your kids occupied on longer trips. Also make sure you have navigation apps downloaded so that you can navigate where you need to go.

Learn About Your Destination

A great idea to keep your kids engaged is to get them learning about your destination. You can give them their own cameras so they can document the journey, taking pictures of fun places along the way. You can also share cool things that you want to do at your destination to get them excited.
