New 2024 Toyota Tacoma Trailhunter and TRD Pro will feature Enhanced Off-Road Capabilities

Toyota has just lifted the veil on its brand-new 2024 Tacoma, introducing exciting improvements to the latest-generation model and adding new levels of capability to its already robust lineup. We already covered the new Tacoma in detail last week, but here we want to focus on the new off-road models introduced with the redesigned Tacoma.

The automaker unveiled two grades specifically designed for off-road use, dubbed the 2024 Toyota Tacoma Trailhunter and the revamped TRD Pro, each tailored to deliver exceptional performance in different rugged environments.

Trailhunter: Born for Overlanding

The Trailhunter grade, co-developed with Australian-based company ARB, is equipped with a plethora of off-road overlanding features. It boasts Old Man Emu (OME) shocks and a rear bumper that add to the vehicle's robust off-road performance. To aid in challenging terrains and tricky situations, Toyota has included recovery points. The Trailhunter also incorporates a bed utility bar and bed rack, enhancing the vehicle's utility for adventure-seekers.

Additionally, the Trailhunter is not short on protection features. It includes rock rails and high-strength steel skid plates to guard the underbody against harsh terrains. For comfort and convenience, the Trailhunter has lighting for both the bed and cabin. Furthermore, a 2400W inverter and pre-wiring for accessories are included. The Trailhunter model will come standard with the impressive new Hybrid MAX powertrain that generates a class-leading 326 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque.

2024 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro: Ready to Conquer the Desert

The TRD Pro grade, on the other hand, is built for the adrenaline-pumping excitement of desert running. Red aluminum front TRD upper control arms and Fox shocks with adjustable compression damping offer superior control and stability at high speeds on uneven surfaces. The multilink rear suspension enhances the truck's ability to glide over desert dunes and maintain grip on loose terrain.

The TRD Pro also stands taller and sports larger tires, further improving its off-road capability and ground clearance. LED lighting enhances visibility for those twilight runs, while an exclusive IsoDynamic Performance Seat provides the driver with a stabilized field of vision and mitigates fatigue during rugged off-road treks.

Tacoma now has up to 33.8-degree approach, 23.5-degree breakover, and 25.7-degree departure angles on TRD Pro without the tow package. Running ground clearance maxes out at 11.1 inches on TRD Pro, giving you the freedom to reach your destination, wherever that may be.

The Evolution of Tacoma’s Off-Road Capability

The 2024 Tacoma, with its Trailhunter and TRD Pro grades, stands as an exciting evolution in Toyota's storied line of pickups. That said, the 2024 Tacoma overall has seen improvements in off-road capability.

The Multi-Terrain Select system, now functional in both 4WD-High and 4WD-Low modes, offers customizable settings to manage wheel spin across various surfaces such as Mud, Dirt, and Sand. Furthermore, Tacoma integrates the new, significantly quieter CRAWL Control feature, acting as a low-speed, off-road cruise control that allows drivers to focus on steering while the system maintains one of five selectable speeds. In instances of extremely limited traction, the optional electronically activated locking rear differential can assist in evenly distributing power to both rear wheels.

Another available off-road function is Downhill Assist Control, which aids drivers in navigating downward slopes by controlling the vehicle's speed. Manual-equipped Tacomas include a standard clutch start cancel function, enabling the truck to start in gear without the need for drivers to press the clutch when confronted with demanding off-road situations during ignition.

More capable than ever, the 2024 Toyota Tacoma is your perfect companion off the beaten path. Give us a call today to learn more.
